Why fixed cure calendars break modern delivery

Most specifications still lean on calendar curing: wait a fixed number of days, then strike forms, post-tension, or load the deck. That rule of thumb was built for average weather and average sections. Real projects are neither. Ambient swings, pour thickness, formwork insulation, heater use, and mix design all change how fast hydration advances.

On a cold Finnish night a 300 mm slab can stall for hours. On a warm afternoon the same mix can race ahead of the programme. Calendar rules force teams into one of two expensive habits: wait longer than necessary and burn idle crew time, or move early and accept risk to strength, durability, and claims.

Concrete maturity methods convert a measured temperature-time history into an equivalent age at a reference temperature.
